What to say about the life that we who are indians by all terms but our parents have moved out to live in a different place for settlement. All that they have brought with them from back home which is usually a village in the cases of the community that i belong is their way of life and the traditional values and culture. Here i am, been living in United States for the past 3 years. I belong to an indian family, our community people are known as Kanbis and we live in india in 24 villages in KUTCH and the villages are scattered around the districts of Mandvi and Bhuj. So many of our community people have moved out from there in search of improved life and have settled in USA, England and Africa. Kenya is one of the countries in Africa where we are in quite a big number. We who are born there and lived there for almost 25 years know what the place means to us. Nairobi, the capital city is full of social life. We get to attend so many weddings and also Samooh laagan is carried out there. Doesnt that sound quite interesting, imagine attending a mass wedding. Life seems to be a steady pace. Weekends usually starts with chai , kadhi and parothas for most of us or for a variation have jalebi and ganthia from wedding or take aways from hotels , indian hotels are quite many there. The day has started, so what comes in next is going to mandir, and there people get gatherings after the prayers and later disperse to their various activites , wedding is one such thing. Coming to the other activities, there is lots to do. Lets start with the shopping, what do u want to buy? If you are looking for indian stuff and food, then people mostly select DP, the famous place in Highridge that is always full of people eating in restaurants, buying indian clothes and above all ofcourse, eating pan and manikchand. But again , if you are looking for the local clothing and bead stuff, there are the famous curio shops and bandas where we can get all the african carvings n sisal skirts that the local people wear in their dances and ofcourse the beautiful masaai jewellery and lesos, kangas and kikois. Besides being careful about the pick pockets and beggars , bargaining is a must while shopping in these places. Also another thing to know is that taxi drivers are also supposed to be handled with care. Also to explore is the national museum and to add on to that also downtown . Coming to night time, do you want to have some fun? Lets go to pavement or carnivore, ofcourse the locals very well know these two discotheques. Staying out late night, better watch out for the buglars. Well, this is just a day gone, how much of all these can we take, so why dont we move to another town for a holiday of a week or so? Where do we go, Mombasa is the place. What is there which is not in Nairobi? Nairobi has everything that people in developed countries would imagine to be in a developing country like Kenya. So then the question still is, why are we going all the way to Mombasa? Beach is definately something that we really wouldnt like to miss out on your trip to Kenya. The beaches here are always full of tourists and if the matter is such, ofcourse we would get all the different types of cuisines just like in nairobi so dont worry about the food. From, african ugali and githeri to, chinese fried rice, mexican, thai ,indian, name it and you get it. On the beaches you get fresh cut mangoes with red chilli powder n salt and pineapple and no one misses on the coconut for sure. Also as you walk along the beach you get to buy many different kinds of beach wear, crafts, applying mehndi, braiding hair and ofcourse whats more beautiful than to sit in the sun n enjoy the ocean breezes and waves. But in all these, be sure to bargain in all aspects from the cottages that you stay to the tiniest of mango that you would buy. Still more exploring, why dont we go have a look at the local museums, there is a wide collection of their ways of lives . Next we go to see the wildlife, there are lots of places to see the animals , crocodiles, hippopatamus, snakes, monkeys , gorillas ,lions, leopards, cheetas, tigers, rhinocerous, zebras and giraffes are just but to name a few . So now what else do we get to do here, of course visit the Fort Jesus and in this way also get to explore old mombasa. Falls the night, we go to light house and eat roasted maize, mhogo and mhogo crips.Apart from these two, also other places in kenya like massai mara, lake nakuru, maji moto, thika and fourteen falls are a must to be visited. Kenya is also one place where we get to see how our people as i mentioned earlier who have moved out from india, are well adapted to the country's lifestyle and also kept on to carry out their traditions and culture . This above all is the main aspect why we as indians who were born and grew up there miss the place from the depths of our heart. There we are brought up with a feeling to being an indian and we all are made to visit india to explore the place and get to know of our roots with greater intensity. What could be more better than to get those cultures and traditions, it is a home away from home.Kenyan people who move out miss the famous sauces, chilli sauces and mabuyu seeds. It is always a dream that one day we would be able to go back there to recall memories, meet friends whom we have left back home, that is home sweet home for all of us who have now moved out of there.
